 PM-189, PM-189T and PM-189II Description
The basic PM-189 is an 8.5"X11" (A-size) test chart containing highly improved versions of all the specified resolution images recommended by the ANSI/AIIM MS44-1988 standard, but it does not include a continuous tone gray scale. (Because it is near impossible to maintain consistent gray scale levels at the same time that high resolution images are maintained on the same paper, we elected to keep the high resolution precision, as reflected in all characters and patterns on the PM-189, and provide the 37-step or stepless gray scales as optional). 

One other exception taken from the standard is the fact that recommended halftone images are photographic reproductions instead of being printed. This was purposely done to maintain the precision and consistency from chart to chart, which we believe, is a necessary feature of any standard reference. A reduced copy of the PM-189 target is Fig. 1.

 The PM-189 is produced on 9-mil resin coated, dimensionally stable matte finish photographic material with 95% reflectance. This material was chosen because it will lie flatter than other material and, in our opinion, is the highest quality substrate available for this application.

 The PM-189T is a transmission film positive produced on transparent .004 mil film. It is one-sided and has the same sizes and pricing as the PM-189.

 Density Scale
A 37-step continuous tone gray scale is available with the PM-189 for an additional $35. Step value (densities) is in 0.05 increments from 0.00 to 1.80. A reduced copy of the PM-189 with Density Scale is shown in Fig. 2. Other reflection positive and transmission (transparent film positive) density scales are available. Click for sizes and prices.

 Different Sizes Available
PM-189, PM-189T, and PM-189II targets are available in the sizes described as follows:

 8.5"x 11" A - One PM-189 or one PM-189D.
11"x 17" B - Two PM-189's side by side on one sheet.
17"x 22" C - Four PM-189’s: side-by-side and end-to-end on one sheet.
22"x 34" D - Eight PM-189’s: side-by-side and end-to-end on one sheet.
34"x 44" E - Sixteen PM-189 enlarged to double size (17"x 22").
17" x 22"-2X-C - One PM-189 enlarged to double size (17" x 22").
34" x 44"-4-2X-E - Four 2X’s: side-by-side and end-to-end, one sheet (34" x 44’).
36"x 48"-XL - Four PM-189’s & one PM-189-2X-C; includes 2" blank leader & 2" x 36"

When the larger sizes are ordered with the 37 step density scale, only one density scale is included on each sheet and comes adhered to a center location within the sheet. Also, the 2X items above require that a multiplication factor of 0.50 (divide by 2) be applied to the resolution numbers shown on the targets.
